The Natural Health Trend and Dieting

The natural health trend is more likely to help you lose weight naturally if you remember the simple principle of not consuming more calories than your body uses; this guidance is lost on many! This advice should be easy to comprehend - at least you would think it was; this obviously isn’t as easy as it sounds because currently over a third of Americans are overweight. However, once you are overweight you can’t wait to lose it again whether it is for a wedding, vacation or just for health reasons.

The truth is it is easier to maintain your weight than it is to lose excess pounds and the heavier you become the harder the weight loss becomes. This is something that all of us know deep down, that if we do not watch what we eat and how much we exercise, then we are doomed to an overweight future.

It has been shown that even when overweight people enjoy eating low calorie foods, the majority become bored and end up putting the weight back on because they slip back into previous ways. The simple fact is this; the longer you ignore natural weight loss programs and stay overweight, the more likely you are to have health problems.

There is a large number of health conditions associated with weight gain and the greater the increase in body weight the more that problems occur. If you think about it, losing excess weight by natural methods is the most acceptable way to get rid of those extra pounds but too many people want a ‘quick fix’ system.

Natural weight loss requires a balanced approach which means a diet that contains quantities of complex carbohydrates, fiber, reduced fat and not too much protein. If you were looking at a meal then this would be a baked potato (carbohydrate), the vegetables would be the fiber and a little meat, is the protein.

Unfortunately, dietary fat contains higher amounts of calories than ordinary food which when consumed will just be converted to body fat more readily. Don’t fall into the fat-free trap where manufacturers keep coming out with low-fat or fat-free versions of their best-selling foods despite the fact that Americans are getting fatter anyway.

The misconception is if you are eating something fat-free then you won’t be adding extra fat to your body but all food contains calories, just not always in the form of fat. This is a trap that many people fall into and forget it’s about eating from the correct food groups, and if you have to snack make it a small healthy one.

Health experts say it would be better to try eating every three to four hours, which may mean a nutritious low-fat snack between lunch and dinner. Maintaining a healthy weight is just that; a natural weight loss program that will continue and allow you to live a long healthy life.
